HDR Images via IIIF Image API
Device displays have made progress the last decade, starting with ever increasing pixel densities, the focus has shifted to more colors (color spaces) and increased brightness. These developments allow the display of HDR content and browsers are also gradually supporting displaying it. What is not unusual for YouTube videos, can now also be used for images: Either to increase immersion, i.e. to make a cultural artefact more interesting, or to support scientific visualization. This presentation introduces the prototype for an IIIF Image API endpoint with UltraHDR tiles and explains the next steps: There is currently an initiative to specify how such HDR content can be transported via the Image API. In this context, it may also emerge that additional metadata is desirable in the Presentation API.
