A Rare Presentation of Concurrent Corneal Abscess and Facial Impetigo: A Case Study
This article presents a rare case of concurrent facial impetigo and corneal abscess in a 10-year-old girl. The patient presented with a painful red eye and crusty facial lesions. Clinical examination and bacteriological samples from infected sites revealed Staphylococcus aureus, leading to a diagnosis of contagious impetigo with a corneal abscess. The patient was treated with both oral and local antibiotics, along with antiseptics and hygienic measures, resulting in a favorable outcome. This case underscores the importance of a thorough facial examination and bacteriological research in patients presenting with suggestive lesions. It also highlights the therapeutic implications of diagnosing nasal carriage of responsible germs, which can be addressed with systemic and topical antibiotics to reduce infection recurrence. Further studies involving a larger number of cases are needed to elucidate the causal link between facial impetigo and corneal involvement.
