A Review On Corrosion Inhibition Performance of Chalcones: A Multi-Technique Study Using Weight Loss, EIS, Polarization, and Quantum Chemical Calculations

Abstract :In this review, more than fifty research papers are investigated to understand the properties of chalcone as a corrosion inhibitor and to examine the effect of these inhibitors on the metal. This depends on several factors, including the type of metal to be protected—whether it is carbon steel, mild steel, or stainless steel—as well as the nature of the acid, whether sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. Additionally, researchers studied the impact of varying inhibitor concentrations and the effect of temperatures on the corrosion rate. Researchers discovered that most chalcone inhibitors adhere to metal through mixed adsorption modes, utilizing the Langmuir isotherm model. Researchers measured weight loss to determine the rate of metal corrosion after the addition of inhibitors. They also conducted electrochemical measurements to investigate the relationship between charge transfer resistance and double-layer capacitance. We looked at how voltage changed the current density, how the cathodic and anodic polarization curves changed, and how the corrosion inhibitor changed the current density using potentiodynamic polarization curves. The theoretical parameters from DFT have been calculated to further understand the adsorption behavior of these chemicals on the specimen surface. This review aids in the selection of suitable chalcone inhibitors for industrial and oil applications, based on their specific purposes.
