NOBERT WIENER – THE FOUNDER OF CYBERNETICS AND HIS ROLE IN THE CREATION OF THE THEORY OF TELEVISION ENGINEERING (TO THE 130TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH)
In the paper, the influence of the ideas of the founder of cybernetics on the development of the theory of television technology is considered. The authors show the importance for the development of television theory of the principles put forward by Norbert Wiener, including feedback, scanning as a transformation of multidimensional signals into a one-dimensional signal, optimal linear filtering, statistical synthesis of the communication system taking into account two noise sources associated with the discrete structure of electricity and light. The applications of feedback inside the television system and the use of these systems in control loops of larger systems are demonstrated. The role of multidimensional scanning for the creation of spectrozonal systems for remote sensing of the Earth is noted. The role of the Wiener filter in video paths with correction of linear distortions is emphasized. The paper reveals the role of Wiener's prediction about the decisive limitation of the quality of video information due to photon noise. The historical aspects of the wide influence of the ideas put forward by Mr Wiener on the theory and practice of television systems are characterized.
