Motor Unit Number Estimation (MUNE): A computational approach
This thesis explores computationally the MUNE technique and how different parameters influence the electrical stimulation of the median nerve. To achieve this, the Sim4Life platform was used for all the simulations. A simple 3D hand model was created, and the platform's Low Frequency Ohmic Electro Quasi Static solver was used. The parameters in question were the radii of the electrodes, the interelectrode distance, the nerve depth, and the intensity of the stimulus. The activating function was calculated for each simulation and the results were based on its values. The findings of this thesis shed light on how these parameters influence axonal excitability and can be used not only for MUNE techniques but also for a wide range of electrical stimulation practices.
