Optimized Laser Cooling of Atomic Strontium in an Optical Lattice
High precision metrology benefits from ultracold atomic samples. Specifically, atom interferometry often requires sub-microkelvin atomic temperatures, since decoherence effects from atomic motion limit the performance of atomic sensors. In this work, we design a simulation of strontium atoms in an optical lattice to predict possible cooling sequences and parameters that optimize both the number and temperature of the atomic sample. We then test our optimal simulation parameters results on 88Sr by cooling on the 1S0 to 3P1 transition.
