Entre la renovación cultural y la crisis del pensar. Aportaciones filosóficas de España Peregrina y Cuadernos Americanos
pp. 16-29 One of the consequences of the Spanish republican exile in Mexico was the considerable rise in number of publishing houses and journals. Many of these came out of a sensation of crisis due to the state of the world at the time. This also holds for España Peregrina and Cuadernos Americanos. Many of the contributions to these two journals can be read as reactions to this crisis. This article studies some of these reactions to show how history and universality are consolidated as first-order philosophical and cultural concepts and as possible solutions to the crisis. At the same time, the journals highlight the role of first Spain and later Hispanic America in the construction of a common culture and a better future. It shows that the intellectuals of the time linked the idea of universality with Hispanic America due to its complexity and diversity and placed the continent at the center of the historical evolution as an exponent of a necessary cultural renewal.
