The Contextual Chiastic Structure and the Theological Meaning of Eternal Life: A Study on Luke 9:51–11:13

This paper reinterprets the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37) from a contextual perspective within the broader chiastic structure of Luke 9:51–11:13. While two previous studies primarily employed literary analysis, this paper focuses on the narrative’s theological context, using chiastic structure to uncover Luke’s deeper intention. It argues that contextual and literary approaches are not in conflict but are mutually reinforcing, together enhancing the theological message of Luke’s Gospel and deepening our understanding of eternal life. This English version is a revised and expanded translation of the Korean article originally published in Journal of Christian Philosophy, Vol. 42 (2025).
