Hybrid experimental-numerical exposure assessment of spatialaveraging schemes
Specific human RF exposure is either hardly or even impossibly assessed by conventional field probe measurement. Limited location access, limited availability of suitable measurement equipment and challenging accuracy requirements necessitate new evaluation methods. We propose a hybrid exposure assessment based on the combination of experimental and numerical techniques, in order to manage the complexity of measurement parameters like frequencies, radiation power, evaluation distance and further. The hybrid approach enables to shift real exposure measurements into the virtual domain while considering realistic antenna radiation patterns. Based on promising results from comparing purely experimental and hybrid measurements in simple measurement tasks, we have extended the hybrid approach towards multiple evaluation points and spatial averaging in accordance with the standard IEC 62232. We demonstrate the capabilities of this approach and prove good agreement between hybrid assessment and field probe measurement show a good agreement. We evaluate the main error sources and argue the relevance of hybrid assessment methods for exposure measurements for advanced wireless transmission standards.
