Gamification of Student Development Projects in Software Engineering Education

Student software development projects, an essential part of Software Engineering education, offer practical experience but often present challenges for students, such as learning new technologies and team coordination, which can affect motivation and productivity. This thesis explores using gamification to boost student motivation and productivity in Scrum-based projects through a tool called DinoDev. Designed based on a user and requirements analysis, DinoDev was implemented and tested with seven undergraduate students, showing a slight increase in self-reported motivation and sprint velocity. However, the findings are limited by the small sample size and participants’ inexperience, indicating the need for further research.
