Representation of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Populations in Cardiovascular Clinical Trials: A Metascience Study

Cardiovascular disease risk varies across racial and ethnic demographic groups and segregation of the data across these groups is important for risk assessment and interpretation of clinical trial results. The purpose of this study is to assess the reporting of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander demographic groups in cardiovascular clinical trials. We hypothesize that there will be low inclusion of this demographic group, or related groups, in cardiovascular clinical trials. Erick Godinez, Fabian Madera, Wesley M. Lin, Takunda Chikuvire, and Anh T. Luu, contributed equally to the development of this work. Wesley M. Lin and Takunda Chikuvire contributed equally to the screening of articles and the data analysis.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease risk varies across racial and ethnic demographic groups and segregation of the data across these groups is important for risk assessment and interpretation of clinical trial results. The purpose of this study is to assess the reporting of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander demographic groups in cardiovascular clinical trials. We hypothesize that there will be low inclusion of this demographic group, or related groups, in cardiovascular clinical trials. Erick Godinez, Fabian Madera, Wesley M.
