Exploring the developmental impact and trajectory of grief and bereavement in adults who lost a parent to cancer when young.

This study aims to retrospectively understand the developmental impact of parental death from cancer, in adults when they were young to co-develop a theoretical framework which can (1) inform the current body of knowledge about the characteristics of adolescent grief from parental cancer (2) inform policy and practice of the need for prevention, early intervention and longitudinal access to support (3) underpin the design of future interventions. This is small scale exploratory qualitative study. Adult participants over the age of 18 will be invited to complete an hour-long interview with the principal researcher online or in person to explore their experience of parental death to cancer when young (under the age of 18). These interviews (online and in person) will be recorded using Teams, transcribed and anonymized for analysis.
