Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

India with its huge population is an agrarian based country where more than 70% of the people are directly or indirectly depending upon agriculture. India is known to be one of the largest exporters of food grains, especially ice and wheat. It is the primary duty of the Government to give financial help to farmers and help them to recover from crop failures due to natural disasters caused by rainfall which is a common phenomenon. Throughout the years many agricultural insurance schemes have been set up but were unsuccessful. Seeing this, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was launched in 2016 which replaced earlier schemes. This report aimed at finding out the performance of PMFBY throughout the years and to verify if the scheme provided crop insurance to farmers in event of crop failures due to natural calamities. Also to know why some states are not implementing the scheme and what make them do so. Non-Doctorial Research methodology was employed for this report and Secondary Data approaches were used. Valuable information and data were collected from Government Official Websites, existing research articles and online news articles. It is found in this report that 10 out of 28 States along with 5 Union Territories opted not to implement the PMFBY schemes due to their own personal reasons.
