Acquisition of Food from Family Farming in School Feeding Programs: Protocol for a Realist Review

This realist review aims to explore how the procurement of food from family farming works within school feeding programs across different global contexts. Recognizing that these programs can promote food and nutrition security, strengthen local economies, and contribute to sustainable development, the review investigates how, for whom, and under what circumstances the relationship between family farming and school feeding works. The review will synthesize international experiences, with no restrictions on time or language, and will articulate theoretical explanations that support public policies in this area. The literature will be retrieved from scientific databases (LILACS, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus), grey literature sources (Google Scholar, PROQUEST), and expert consultations. The project is supported by the Research Support Foundation of the State of Bahia (FAPESB) and conducted by a team of nutritionists and researchers from the School of Nutrition at the Federal University of Bahia.
