Sleep and emotion regulation in adults with ADHD

This is a pre-registration of the hypotheses and analytic plan for a scientific paper that will investigate the relationship between self-reported problems with sleep and difficulties with emotion regulation among individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). We primarily aim to investigate: i) the association between insomnia and difficulties with emotion regulation in individuals with ADHD that are 16 years and older; ii) how gender and age group (younger/older) will moderate the relationship between insomnia and difficulties with emotion regulation; and iii) how a preference for eveningness will moderate the association between insomnia and difficulties with emotion regulation. We will consider the often-found heterogeneity in sample characteristics of ADHD, by controlling for effects of level of education, occupational status, use of CNS medication, and level of co-occurring mental health problems (depression, anxiety, and substance use).
