Fibrinogen replacement for acquired hypofibrinogenemia and associations with patient outcomes: A scoping review protocol
Objective: To determine the sources of available evidence on fibrinogen replacement therapy used either prophylactically or in patients with acquired hypofibrinogenemia. Introduction: Fibrinogen replacement therapy is used variably in patients with acquired hypofibrinogenemia to prevent or treat bleeding. A synthesis of available evidence could help support evidence-based decision making. The literature on this topic is heterogeneous. We aim to perform a scoping review to map the literature on fibrinogen replacement therapy and to help determine whether a meta-analysis is feasible. Inclusion Criteria: We will include all studies and conference abstracts on all patients treated with fibrinogen replacement. All countries and clinical settings will be considered. We will evaluate studies reporting use of viscoelastic testing versus conventional laboratory testing (fibrinogen levels) to inform fibrinogen replacement decisions. We will also evaluate studies reporting fibrinogen levels and their association with patient outcomes. Methods: A medical research information specialist will perform literature searches to identify studies for screening. Two authors will screen studies according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data will be extracted from included studies and results will be organized into tables. See attached PDF for the Scoping Review Protocol.
