Mindful eating in the treatment of binge eating: a scoping review
Obesity and eating disorders pose increasing challenges to global public health, often associated with emotional, behavioral, and lifestyle factors. Among these disorders, Binge Eating Disorder stands out due to its complexity, which demands more integrative therapeutic approaches. Mindful Eating, a practice based on mindfulness, has emerged as a promising strategy in the treatment of such conditions. This scoping review protocol aims to map the available evidence in the literature regarding the application of Mindful Eating in the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder in adults, within clinical settings. The methodology will follow the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines, based on the PCC strategy (Population, Concept, and Context). Studies published in the last five years will be included, retrieved from the PubMed, Scielo, BVS, and APA PsycInfo databases, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Extracted data will be analyzed descriptively and presented through flowcharts, tables, and thematic categorization. It is expected that this review will expand the understanding of the effectiveness of Mindful Eating, identify knowledge gaps, and support more effective clinical practices in the management of Binge Eating Disorder.
