Good nursing practices for patients with drainage devices: A scoping review
Introduction: Nursing care for post-operative patients with surgical drains requires scientific knowledge, planning and organization of actions. In turn, scientific knowledge based on the best evidence available in the literature is crucial for patient safety and improving the quality of care. General objective: To map out the main good nursing practices in the national and international literature when caring for surgical patients with drainage devices in surgical units. Specific Aim: To describe care for the different types of drains. Method: This is a Scoping Review, a method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) - Checklist, which will be registered on the Open Science Framework platform. The preliminary search was carried out using descriptors chosen using the acronym PCC: P - Patient: surgical patients; C - Concept: Good nursing practices in the management of drainage devices; C - Context: surgical units (wards and intermediate post-operative unit), which were linked to the Boolean operators AND and OR. The search will be carried out in the following databases: LILACS via BVS, MEDLINE via PUBMED, CINAHL, Embase; WOS, krocali, Scopus and Ebsco. With regard to gray literature, the BDTD, AORN, CDC, ANVISA manuals were used, as well as the book (NIC) Classification of Nursing Interventions and WorldCat platform. The results obtained will be grouped according to the PRISMA-ScR flowchart, which consists of identifying the records presented by searching the databases and gray literature, selecting the studies and excluding duplicates, eligibility through the title and abstract, and including the articles in their synthesis. As recommended by the JBI for the production of a scoping review, the data will be presented in tables and graphs for each approach investigated. In addition, a descriptive summary will accompany the tabulated information, explaining how these results relate to the review's research question.
