The psychological and social outcomes reported in behavioural intervention trials for children and adolescents with overweight and obesity: A scoping review
Overweight and obesity are conditions associated with a variety of negative psychological and social consequences. Although behavioural interventions aim to manage weight and prevent the development of these negative consequences, recent research suggests that there is little consideration for psychological and social outcomes in behavioural intervention trials. The objective of the proposed scoping review is to map the existing evidence on the extent to which psychological and social outcomes have been reported across the literature of behavioural intervention randomized trials in children and adolescents with overweight and obesity. Specifically, this scoping review will (i) provide a description of the trials included; (ii) report the types of psychological and social outcomes reported across randomized trials; (iii) present frequencies of the outcomes reported to reflect how often they have been considered and explored; and (iv) report the measures used to assess each of the psychological and social outcomes reported. Mapping the existing evidence on the psychological and social outcomes reported among these behavioural intervention trials can help identify relevant gaps in the literature and inform potential outcomes to consider for future research studies.
