The Role of Social Interaction and Local Values in Sustaining Urban Village Communities
Social life in inner-city villages has its own uniqueness, despite being in the midst of busyness and rapid modernization. This paper tries to explain how residents interact with each other and what factors shape and influence their daily social relationships. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the author collected data through direct observation, interviews, and visits to several densely populated areas in urban areas. The results show that even though living space is tight, stress levels are high, and the environment is constantly changing, residents can still maintain togetherness and mutual care. Activities such as night patrols, community service, recitation, women's social gatherings, and small talk in front of the house are important spaces to strengthen social relations. These habits build mutual trust and foster collective identity as a community. The findings confirm that social relations in urban villages continue to grow naturally amidst challenges. This study can be an input for empowerment programs that favor the real conditions of urban villagers.
