Effectiveness of Social Learning Theory-Based Parenting Interventions in Reducing Violent Parenting Practices in Children Aged 2–10: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Role of Cultural Adaptation
This research is part of my research internship within the Research Master in Child Development and Education at the University of Amsterdam. Building on an existing dataset (PROSPERO ID: CRD42019141844), the project investigates whether the effectiveness of social learning theory-based parenting interventions in reducing violent parenting practices is moderated by cultural adaptation. The dataset already includes all variables required for the planned meta-analysis—including effect sizes—except for information on cultural adaptation. To fill this gap, I conducted a rigorous theoretical review and systematically coded the presence or absence of cultural adaptation in each trial, focusing on interventions delivered in countries different from where they were developed. For trials where this information was missing, my supervisor and I contacted the study authors to request clarification. The final stage of the project involves conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis using this enriched dataset to examine whether culturally adapted interventions are more effective in reducing violent parenting practices in children aged 2 to 10 years.
