A Scoping Review on Pre-serotherapy for the Prevention of Hypersensitivity to Antivenom Serum in Patients with Envenomations by Bothrops, Crotalus, Lachesis, or Elapidae Species
This scoping review aims to map and synthesize the available literature on pre-serotherapy for the prevention of hypersensitivity to antivenom serum in patients who have suffered envenomations by medically significant snake species, including Bothrops, Crotalus, Lachesis, and Elapidae, in Brazil. The review focuses on identifying existing practices, interventions, and recommendations regarding the use of pre-serotherapy, particularly in the context of preventing allergic reactions to antivenom. It will examine factors such as patient characteristics, types of snake envenomation, pre-treatment protocols, and the effectiveness of pre-serotherapy in mitigating hypersensitivity. The review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current practices and highlight knowledge gaps in the use of pre-serotherapy for antivenom treatment in snakebite incidents.
