A Sociological Analysis of the Impact of Technological Transformation on Indonesian Society
Digital transformation over the past two decades has become one of the primary drivers of significant social change in global society, including Indonesia. This social transformation extends beyond technological aspects, impacting social structures, cultural values, patterns of interaction, and power dynamics within society. Digital technologies such as the internet, social media, and artificial intelligence have created new social spaces that enable the formation of virtual collective identities, the massive dissemination of information, and the emergence of previously unknown forms of social participation. These phenomena present tremendous opportunities to promote social inclusion, democratize knowledge, and empower communities. However, they also pose serious challenges, such as disinformation, digital inequality, social alienation, and the erosion of local values. This article aims to comprehensively analyze the dynamics of social change influenced by the advancement of digital technologies in Indonesian society. Employing a qualitative approach through literature review, this study examines scholarly works published within the last five years. The analysis reveals that social transformation in the digital era is largely shaped by three main factors: technological access, digital literacy, and cultural readiness. Digitalization fosters the emergence of a more fluid social order, yet simultaneously increases the risk of social fragmentation and cultural identity crises. Therefore, inclusive social policies and critical digital literacy are essential for enabling communities to navigate these changes adaptively and sustainably. The study concludes that although digital technologies are technically neutral, they hold significant social power in shaping the trajectory of societal change, necessitating management through a critical and context-sensitive sociological lens.
