The Epidemic Prevention Bureau of the Three Northeastern Provinces and Cholera Control in Harbin
During the Republic of China period, Harbin experienced multiple outbreaks of cholera, notably in 1919 and 1926. Both outbreaks were met with significant efforts from The Epidemic Prevention Bureau of the Three Northeastern Provinces, achieved notable success, and accumulated a wealth of experience in cholera prevention and control. However, in 1932, a severe flood hit Harbin, which led to another cholera outbreak. This time, the role of The Epidemic Prevention Bureau of the Three Northeastern Provinces was limited, and the city's response speed and epidemic control efficiency declined. By comparing the characteristics of the prevention and control measures and analyzing the effective measures taken to control the epidemics, this study explores the role of The Epidemic Prevention Bureau of the Three Northeastern Provinces. It aims to enrich the historical research on cholera and highlight the achievements China made in cholera research.
