Engineering Screw Dislocations\nin Covalent Organic\nFrameworks

We report the application of a Pictet-Spengler reaction\nto the\nsynthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) using functionalized\nterephthalaldehydes. The COFs produced show an increased propensity\nto generate screw dislocations and produce multilayered flakes when\ncompared with other 2D-COFs. Using HRTEM, definitive evidence for\nscrew dislocations was obtained and is presented. The effects on separations\nusing these materials in membranes are also reported.
