A DNA Origami Bubble\nBlower for Liposome Production
While liposomes are commonly produced on the industrial\nscale with\ndiameters in the hundreds of nanometers to micrometer size range,\nthe variation from the mean diameter can be significant. In nature,\nfunctional liposome-like systems can be as small as tens of nanometers\nin diameter but reproducible synthetic production at this size scale\nis not easily achievable. Here we outline the development of a DNA\norigami “bubble blower”a nanoscale ring able\nto seed and constrain liposome formation. The bubble blower has the\npotential to be employed in a reusable fashion for production of nanometric\nliposomes. It improves currently available DNA origami liposome seeding\ntechniques by expanding the range of compatible detergents and introducing\nsolid support integration with potential for semiautomated laboratory\nscale production.
