Abstract

Heading toward the next-generation\nintelligent optical\ndevice,\nthe meta-optics active tunability is one of the most desirable properties\nto expand its versatility beyond the traditional optical devices.\nDespite its advances via various tunable approaches, the encoding\nfreedom of tuning capability still critically restricts its widespread\nengagement and dynamics in real-life applications. Here, we present\na gesture-interactive scheme by topography flexible metasurfaces (TFMs)\nto expand the encoding freedom for the tuning capability. Through\nregulating different surface topographies, the potential tuning degree\nof freedom (DoF) has been fully explored to dynamically display/encrypt\nup to 16 independent holographic images, exceeding the state-of-the-art\ntuning DoF. Such topography flexibility is interactively tuned with\ngesture triggers, manual bending, and other large-area repeatable\ncontrolling methods to extract and display the respective holographic\nimages. We envision that this research stimulates active meta-device\ninnovation and suggests potential applications in next-generation\ninteractive displays, information storage and encryption, and wearable\noptical devices.
