A\nDNA Origami Pivot Hinge Driven by DNA Intercalators
The\nDNA origami nanotechnology has been used to construct nanoscale\nstructures whose shapes can be dynamically reconfigured. Here, we\npropose a DNA origami hinge with a continuous pivot motion controlled\nby the concentration of DNA intercalators. It consists of two six-helix\nbundles connected by two gold nanoparticles. We can control the sensitivity\nand range of pivot motion by using different types of intercalators\nand their mixture and by varying the distance between cross-linking\ngold nanoparticles. The pivot motion is reversible and repeatable.\nA concept of bending nanoactuators is demonstrated by connecting three\npivot hinges. The proposed pivot hinge mechanism may be useful in\ndeveloping nanosensors or actuators that require amplification of\nthe small deformation of DNA duplexes induced by molecular agents.
