Water-Rewritable\nStructural Color Textiles with Fast\nResponse Speed and Antispreading Capability

The stimuli-responsive textiles,\nespecially water-responsive\ntextiles,\nhave garnered attention owing to their environmental compatibility.\nInspired by the hydrochromic behavior of Diphylleia\ngrayi, water-rewritable structural color (WRSC) textiles\nexhibiting fast response speed and antispreading capability were fabricated\nby spraying hollow SiO2 (H-SiO2) microspheres\nand poly(trifluoroethyl methacrylate-butyl acrylate) [P(TFEMA-BA)].\nThe water-written textiles exhibited structural color changes in 0.6\ns via an increase in the refractive index, driven by water penetrating\nthe gaps between H-SiO2 microspheres. The structural color\nwas restored to the initial state after the water evaporated, allowing\nmultiple cycles of the write-erase-write mode. The hydrophobic P(TFEMA-BA)\nadhesive was used to construct a stable chromogenic array and endow\nWRSC textiles with antispreading properties, thereby improving structural\nstability and achieving clear writing patterns. The prepared WRSC\ntextiles demonstrated high flexibility, structural stability, and\nwater-rewritable properties, providing advanced bionic inspiration\nand valuable design ideas for rewritable materials and smart textiles.

Abstract

The stimuli-responsive textiles,\nespecially water-responsive\ntextiles,\nhave garnered attention owing to their environmental compatibility.\nInspired by the hydrochromic behavior of Diphylleia\ngrayi, water-rewritable structural color (WRSC) textiles\nexhibiting fast response speed and antispreading capability were fabricated\nby spraying hollow SiO2 (H-SiO2) microspheres\nand poly(trifluoroethyl methacrylate-butyl acrylate) [P(TFEMA-BA)].\nThe water-written textiles exhibited structural color changes in 0.6\ns via an increase in the refractive index, driven by water penetrating\nthe gaps between H-SiO2 microspheres. The structural color\nwas restored to the initial state after the water evaporated, allowing\nmultiple cycles of the write-erase-write mode. The hydrophobic P(TFEMA-BA)\nadhesive was used to construct a stable chromogenic array and endow\nWRSC textiles with antispreading properties, thereby improving structural\nstability and achieving clear writing patterns. The prepared WRSC\ntextiles demonstrated high flexibility, structural stability, and\nwater-rewritable properties, providing advanced bionic inspiration\nand valuable design ideas for rewritable materials and smart textiles.
