Spiropyran as\nBuilding Block in Peptide Synthesis\nand Modulation of Photochromic Properties

Light-controlled triggering of materials requires efficient\nembedding\nof molecular photoswitches into larger molecules. We herein present\nthe synthesis of two new building blocks for the synthesis of photoswitchable\npeptides, embedding spiropyranes as a central unit into peptide-backbones\nvia a novel, yet unreported approach. The synthesis presented here\n allows us to embed spiropyranes directly into solid-phase peptide\nsynthesis (SPPS), further describing the resulting photophysical\nproperties of the as-prepared photoswitchable peptides.
