Synthesis of\nRaspberry-like PMMA Particles In a Ternary\nSolvent Mixture with Binary Initiators
There is continuing interest in the synthesis of raspberry-like\npolymer particles, among which most of the reports have tended to\nfocus on polymer composite particles, while there are relatively few\nexamples of polymer particles with a single component. In this study,\nraspberry-like poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) particles were synthesized\nby a one-step method in a ternary solvent mixture with binary initiators.\nThe effects of different polymerization parameters, including the\nsolvent composition, the initiator composition, the stabilizer component,\nthe polymerization temperature, the stirring rate, and the nature\nof the monomer, on the morphology and size of the resulting particles\nwere studied. A plausible mechanism for raspberry-like particle formation\nwas suggested based on the monitoring data of the polymerization kinetics.\nThe raspberry-like PMMA particles have a high dispersion stability\nin a salty aqueous environment.
