Tris(trimethylsilyl)silane\nin Photochemical HydrodesulfurizationMethodology\nand Pyrophoricity
A novel\nvisible-light-induced hydrodesulfurization of a thioacetal\nwas developed. The reaction operates under mild conditions using user-friendly\ntris(trimethylsilyl)silane as the reductant and a low catalyst loading\nof photoactive 4CzIPN. The expansion of the reaction scope was thwarted\nby the operationally hazardous nature of the process, occasionally\nproducing fire. Careful examination of reaction mixtures allowed to\nidentify silane (SiH4) as the likely culprit causing the\npyrophoricity.
