Complex Cage,\nCage-Brush, and Lantern Polymers with\nTopological-Enhancing Phosphorescence
Cage polymers, a type of special cyclic polymer with\nan intriguing\nthree-dimensional topology and internal cavity, have attracted increasing\nattention. However, because of the complicated topological structure,\nprecise preparation of cage polymers is a formidable challenge. Herein,\nan effective and versatile synthetic strategy was developed to precisely\nconstruct complex topological polymers with a well-defined structure\nand high molecular weight, including three-arm cage, three-arm cage-brush,\nbi(three-arm) cage, and six-arm cage polymers, by a ring-opening metathesis\npolymerization-based blocking-cyclization technique using different\nshort polymeric ladderphanes containing multiple living ends as the\ninitial and end-cyclizing motifs, which was the key factor in simply\ntuning the polymer topology. Moreover, bi- and six-arm lantern polymers\nwere readily derived from the corresponding cage polymers. By comparison\nof the performance differences between these novel polymers, the dependence\nof the properties on the topology was revealed. Therefore, this work\nprovided a platform for constructing complex topological polymers\nwith unique topological-enhancing phosphorescent performance and mechanical\nproperties.
