<i>n</i>‑Dodecylbenzene Binary Mixtures\nwith Alkanes: Densities, Speeds of Sound, and Viscosities between\n288.15 and 333.15 K and at 0.1 MPa
This\nwork reports densities, viscosities, and speeds of sound of\nbinary mixtures of <i>n</i>-dodecylbenzene with decane,\ndodecane, tridecane, tetradecane, and pentadecane and their associated\nexcess molar volumes (<i>V</i>mE),\nexcess speeds of sound (<i>c</i>E), excess isentropic\ncompressibilities (ΚsE), and viscosity\ndeviations (Δη). As the concentration of dodecylbenzene\nincreased, the mixture’s densities, viscosities, and speeds\nof sound increased. <i>V</i>mE’s,\nΔη’s, <i>c</i>E’s,\nand <i>K</i>sE’s ranged from\n−0.42 to 0.01 cm mol–1, −0.15 to 0.23\nmPa s, 1.4 to 20.0 m s–1, and −22.3 to −1.5\nTPa–1, and respectively. Increasing the alkane size\ncaused the equimolar mixture’s <i>V</i>mE’s and <i>K</i>sE’s to increase and Δη’s and <i>c</i>E’s to decrease at 293.15 K. For most systems,\nboth <i>V</i>mE and <i>K</i>sE were negative, which suggests that when\nthe molecules occupy less volume than an ideal mixture, they are also\nless compressible than an ideal mixture. The trends in <i>V</i>mE’s, Δη’s, <i>c</i>E’s, and <i>K</i>sE’s for dodecylbenzene were found to be similar\nto those of dodecylcyclohexane, which suggests that the alkyl portion\nof these molecules may have more of an impact on properties than do\nthe benzyl and cyclo groups.
