Silver and Silver/Sodium\nBisphosphonate Salts: Rare\nExamples of Molecular Solid Solutions and Their Biological Activity\nas Dual-Action Compounds
Bisphosphonates (BPs) are an important treatment for\nosteoporosis\nand bone metastases due to their low toxicity, high thermostability,\nand the ability to inhibit bone resorption. Notably, BPs like alendronate,\nwhich contain a primary amine group, exhibit potent antiresorptive\nand antiangiogenic properties. Recent studies have focused on enhancing\nthe BP properties by incorporating bioactive metals to increase their\ntherapeutic potential. Here, we describe the synthesis and physicochemical\nproperties of new silver etidronate and alendronate salts. Our research\ndemonstrates the potential of silver bisphosphonate complexes in promoting\nosteoblast viability while exhibiting significant antimicrobial activity.\nMoreover, silver/sodium alendronates turned out to be rare examples\nof molecular solid solutions that allow the adjustment of the concentration\nof potentially cytotoxic silver cations within the obtained compounds.
