Abstract

The capacity of photoresponsive organogels to react to light stimuli with reversible changes in their physical characteristics has made them a potential class of materials for a variety of functional biomaterial applications. These substances allow for regulated modification of the structure and function of organogels in response to light by combining their adaptability with photoactive moieties. Recent advancements in the development of photoresponsive organogels have led to their use in areas such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, and biosensing. This Perspective aims to explore the latest trends in the design and synthesis of photoresponsive organogels, highlighting key strategies for enhancing their responsiveness, stability, and biocompatibility. We also discuss the challenges associated with scaling up these materials for practical applications including issues related to light penetration, material degradation, and the need for precise control over the response kinetics. Furthermore, we outline potential future directions in the field, including the integration of advanced light-responsive functionalities, the development of more sustainable and biodegradable materials, and the exploration of new applications in personalized medicine and environmental monitoring. The continued innovation in photoresponsive organogels promises to expand their potential for use in next-generation functional biomaterials.
