Potential Application of Methionine/Threonine for Enhancing Apatite on Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes

There are no considers already detailed on the utilize of methionine (Met) or threonine (Thr) for functionalizing ‎of oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (ox-MWCNTs) via sol-gel strategy to the finest of our knowledge. For ‎use in biomedical applications, this study intends to create new biohybrid materials based on ox-MWCNTs that ‎contain tetra ethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and various amino acids (Met or Thr). An investigation was conducted ‎into the physicochemical characterisation using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), dynamic ‎light scattering technique (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning and transmitting electron microscopes (SEM ‎and TEM). The findings showed that both scaffolds have good colloidal stability with particle sizes of 781 and ‎‎955 d.nm, respectively, relative to that of the salinized ox-MWCNTs (413 d.nm). Moreover, It is evident that ‎during the creation of the sol-gel, the methionine and theronine were securely connected to the ox-MWCNTs and ‎TEOS. Also, in-vitro bone bioactivity was tested after being incubated in simulated body fluid (SBF) at 37°C for ‎intervals of 5, 7, and 10 days. Overall, compared to the original SBF (105.3 mg/L), both scaffolds had a low ‎calcium concentration in the residual SBF (88.4-34.6 and 94.4-89.5 mg/L, respectively). HPLC analysis showed ‎that both (Met) and (Thr) amino acids had relatively stable remaining concentrations that were detected in the ‎residual SBF. It is clear that both amino acids are crucial for improving the production of calcium apatite at the ‎surfaces of the hybrid composites.‎
