Correlation between serum hydrocarbon profiles and CBC results among fuel station workers; insights from GC-MS quantification
Introduction: workers at Fuel filling stations are subjected to a combination of hydrocarbons present in fuel vapours during refueling operations as well as emissions released from vehicular exhaust systems, which can be harmful to their health Aim of the study: To detect Correlation between serum hydrocarbon profiles and CBC results among fuel station workers Subjects and Methods: A prospective case-control study carried out in petrol station workers in Fayoum governorate during the period from March 2023 till December 2023 including 120 participants (90 benzene filling workers and 30 healthy volunteer. Complete history is taken from each participant alongside CBC analyses and serum hydrocarbon levels measurements. Results: demonstrated statistically high significant differences between the studied and the control groups in red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), platelets (PLTs) count and S. hydrocarbon concentrations Conclusion: This study established that benzene exposure significantly elevate erythrocyte, leukocyte, and thrombocyte counts alongside high Serum hydrocarbon levels.
