Evaluation of Cognition in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Cognitively Intact Group: A Follow-up Study.

Introduction: Assessment of cognition in the elderly is essential. A brain function syndrome called mild cognitive impairment involves the onset and progression of cognitive impairments that go beyond what would be predicted given an individual's age and education level, but are not severe enough to interfere with day-to-day functioning. Objective: assessing the six-month cognitive change in the control group and those with mild cognitive impairment. Methods: This study was acase-control follow-upp study that was conducted on 160 elderly patients recruited from ASU hospitals. They were divided into 2 groups: 80 cognitively intact participants and 80 participants with MCI. All patients were subjected to a comprehensive geriatric assessment and Cognitive assessment: was done using CDR, mainly followed by the Arabic version of theMini-Mentall Status Examination and the Arabic version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Results: Cognitive assessment at first visit and follow-up visit in the MCI group demonstrated that the MMSE test attention, recall, and language tests all showed statistically significant results. The MOCA test, executive and orientation tests all showed statistical significance. Conclusion: Cognitive assessment at the first visit and follow-up visit in the MCI group demonstrated that the MMSE test items, attention, recall, as well as language tests,s were statistically significant results. Also, the MOCA test items executive as well as orientation tests all showed statistical significance. The following variables were statistically significant in CDR: orientation, community affairs and home & hobbies.
