Comparative study between Intralesional Acyclovir and Bleomycin in Treatment of Plantar Warts

Background: Warts, medically known as verrucae, are benign skin lesions that affect people of any age and gender. Nearly 30% of all skin warts are plantar warts, which affect the soles of the feet.Aim and objectives: Specifically, we want to know how well acyclovir and intralesional bleomycin work for treating plantar warts.Patients and methods: Between November 2023 and April 2024, the Outpatient Dermatology Clinics at Al-Azhar University Hospitals in Cairo, Egypt, conducted a prospective, open-label pilot trial with fifty patients who had plantar warts. Results: After comparing the outcomes of group A (bleomycin) with group B (acyclovir), we concluded that bleomycin is more effective than acyclovir in treating plantar warts, even though there was no statistically significant distinction between the two groups regarding the type, number, duration, or injection complications. The age and gender of the patient. Conclusion: Planter warts can be safely and effectively treated with intralesional acyclovir. This remedy falls short of bleomycin as a remedy for plantar warts. This solution is budget-friendly, easy to administer, and requires no additional equipment. Thus, acyclovir could be contemplated for treating planter warts; however, more studies are required to determine its effectiveness. There were no reports of significant adverse effects. Local reactions, including pain and bruising, were the reported adverse effects.
