The role of nanotechnology applications in achieving low-energy buildings

The properties of building materials and raw materials are considered starting point for achieving design requirements, as they are considered the basic element that affects the efficiency of the structure. One of the latest sciences that has brought about tremendous development in controlling the internal proper-ties of materials is nanotechnology, through which it has been possible to improve the properties of the material or modify its properties as a step towards providing performance requirements for the material or producing a new mate-rial. This has led to innovation in the methods of thinking and architectural de-sign to contribute to achieving efficient interaction of buildings with the surrounding environment. The research assumes the possibility of using nanotechnology to improve the performance of buildings to achieve environmentally balanced buildings as a step towards reducing energy consumption. To achieve this, the research relies on two basic study approaches: first, an inductive study in which the concept of low-energy buildings and the principles of achieving it are identified. Then, the study of nanotechnology and its applications in architecture in terms of the materials and devices used in buildings is followed by an analytical study of the extent to which the applications of various nanotechnology techniques in buildings can be used to achieve environmental balance for low-energy buildings. The research concludes that nanotechnology is considered a revolution of the age, and its application in the field of architecture con-tributes to its development in terms of thought, form, and environmental compatibility. Nanotechnology has emerged as a link between buildings and the environment, helping to achieve a balance between architectural technology and building sustainability. Its application helps create buildings with high environmental efficiency. The study also recommends directing scientific and applied research to the study of nanotechnology, incorporating it into academic curricula, and activating its application in buildings.
