Neurotherapeutic Effect of Sidr (ZS. Christi L.) Leaf Extract against AlCl3 neurotoxicity
Aluminum chloride (AlCl3) is used more frequently in many industrial domains. long-term injection with AlCl3 caused neurotoxic effects. Some medicinal plants possess the ability to mitigate neural injuries, making them an essential treatment choice for related brain disorders. The aim of our work is investigating possible neurotherapeutic effect of leaves extract of Zizyphus spina-Christi (ZS. Christi) going on Alzheimer disease was induced by AlCl3 by evaluating the cognitive function in rat models, biochemical, molecular, and histopathological investigations. Methods: The study was done by oral exposure of AlCl3 (100 mgkg-1) and ZS. Christi extract (100 mgkg-1) for 16 weeks. In rat brain tissue, we assessed the concentrations of phosphorylated tau (p231-tau) and amyloid-beta (Aβ1-42), acetyl cholinesterase activity (AchE), oxidative stress biomarkers, and the expression levels of the inflammatory cytokine TNF-α gene and apoptotic marker BAX also measured. Results: AlCl3 performed worse on the OFT, EFT, and Y-maze behavioral tests than control rats, a significant elevation of (ROS), MDA, NO levels and depletion in (TAC) and GPX enzyme activities level, significant increase in Aβ1–42, p231-tau and AchE levels along with upregulation in TNF-α gene expression levels, BAX respectively in the tissues of the brain. Co-treatment with ZS. Christi showed significantly reversed all of these effects. Conclusion: According to the findings of the study, ZS. Christi may offer potential remedies for neurotoxicity, due to ZS. Christi rich with anti-apoptotic and antioxidant properties. These results also support the alternative medicine usage of this plant to treat AD and other neurological conditions
