Norma and neostandard in Italian LS manuals published in Sweden: a survey This longitudinal study aims to analyze the presence of elements ascribable to the neostandard in FL Italian textbooks produced in Sweden, revisiting a ten-year-old study (Tabaku Sörman, 2014) and supplementing it with recently collected data. The previous study showed how the linguistic input of the textbooks was characterised by elements of the neostandard, so much so that the author coined the label of italiano manualistico to define this particular type of language. The results of the new analysis confirm the trend without exception: only a few typical elements of the neostandard (che polivalente or indicative in completive clauses dependent on opinion verbs) still remain at the moment excluded from the selection made by the authors. Some interesting syntactically marked constructions (dislocations and cleft sentences) are never analysed, even though they appear with some frequency in the input. This prompts us to speculate that the authors' linguistic choices are not always scientifically motivated and rather serve to lend a patina of authenticity to an input that is far from being spontaneous and authentic.
