Russian Youth's Image of Their Country: Historical and Cultural Aspect

The article describes the results of a study of the country's image conducted in 2024. The sample on which it was based (300 people) is not fully representative, but it allows us to detect certain trends that can be tested in larger studies. According to the methodology used, the image of countries includes such elements as: the image of the people, power, territory, geopolitical position. Since the emphasis in the study was on the historical and cultural aspect, the article pays attention to the temporal dimension of the image, which is associated with both the country's past and its future. According to the data obtained, the image of the country can be characterized as cognitively poor, emotionally charged, internally contradictory and unbalanced. The reason for this is the lack of a system of historical, cultural and political ideas among young people. Meanwhile, it is noted that, compared with studies of previous years, the image has become more attractive, which is clearly manifested in the assessments of power, especially on the strength scale. The historical aspect of the image is characterized by a more positive assessment of the present, compared to the Soviet period and the 1990s. The image of the country's future in the minds of young people is quite positive, while along with domestic policy and economic development, its geopolitical dimension and Russia's place in the system of international relations occupy an important place in it.
