The Engines of Discovery: How Cryo-EM Technology Transformed Biology
Abstract Development of cryo-EM has significantly advanced our understanding of biomolecules and drug development. In this article we discuss the development and use of Thermo Fisher cryo-EM preparation equipment and electron microscopes, including the Vitrobot™, energy filters, cold field emission guns, direct electron detection devices, and image analysis software. All have played a role in transforming the field of structural biology by improving resolution and capabilities beyond more traditional techniques such as X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
