Impact of magnetic water treatment on the properties of high-performance concrete

High Performance building materials are continuously developed by civil engineering society. The process of hydration and workability mainly rests on the water quantity existing in concrete. Currently, a vast amount of potable water has been exploited by construction for numerous purposes. Using magnetized water (MW) in concrete has numerous advantages if it is used as mixing water. This study explores the effects of ready-mix concrete (RMC) using MW with the addition of superplasticizer (SP) and storage time on the workability and hardened properties using a permanent magnet with 0.9 Tesla field intensity. Seven distinct MW mixes were prepared with different substitutions of SP dosage (0.15%, 0.25%, 0.35%, and 0.45%) and storage times (1 h, 2 h, and 3 h) for M30 mix with W/C of 0.38. The performance of concrete was assessed through mechanical properties. The characterization of MW concrete in RMC is assessed through morphology and spectral analysis. The findings indicate that MW as a hydration boosting agent significantly enhances the fresh and hardened concrete properties. Results show a 14.2% enhancement in workability and a 10.85% improvement in Compressive load compared to normal water (NW) with 0.45% SP. MW after 60 min of storage time shows better performance than Normal Water Concrete. Hydrated products of concrete mix with MW were confirmed through X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The microstructure analysis shows that MW forms a smaller Calcium Hydrate crystal and complete hydration products after 28 days.
