A molecularly engineered flame retardant composite at ultra-low loading enables a safe PDOL electrolyte for solid-state Li metal batteries

A molecularly engineered phosphorus-based composite flame retardant (≤3 wt%) was incorporated into in situ polymerized DOL electrolytes, which affords both enhanced interface compatibility and improved flame retardancy for solid-state lithium metal batteries and tackles the long-standing problem of the intrinsic flammability of polymer electrolytes.

Abstract

A molecularly engineered phosphorus-based composite flame retardant (≤3 wt%) was incorporated into in situ polymerized DOL electrolytes, which affords both enhanced interface compatibility and improved flame retardancy for solid-state lithium metal batteries and tackles the long-standing problem of the intrinsic flammability of polymer electrolytes.
