Chitin‐Derived Materials in Medical Dressings
ABSTRACT Wound care is a crucial aspect of clinical medicine, directly impacting patient recovery and quality of life, yet traditional dressings like gauze and cotton have limitations such as poor absorption, inadequate breathability, and lack of antibacterial properties, driving research into advanced medical dressing materials. Chitin and its derivatives, such as chitosan, have garnered significant attention in the field of medical dressings due to their exceptional biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antimicrobial properties. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the properties of chitin‐derived materials, highlighting their current applications in medical dressings. Furthermore, it explores their roles in promoting wound healing, preventing infections, and facilitating tissue regeneration, while also analyzing existing technical challenges and potential future advancements in this field.
