Management Practices of School Heads in Addressing English, Mathematics, and Science Challenges in the Division of Surigao del Norte

This study explored the management practices of school heads in addressing the challenges encountered in English, Mathematics, and Science instruction in the Division of Surigao del Norte. Using a qualitative phenomenological research design, the study gathered data from fifteen school heads through Focus Group Discussion (FGD), In-Depth Interview (IDI), and Key Informant Interview (KII). Colaizzi’s method guided the thematic analysis, revealing five significant themes: (1) Strategic Leadership in Curriculum Implementation, (2) Resource Management and Optimization, (3) Instructional Support and Teacher Development, (4) Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanisms, and (5) Community Engagement and Collaboration. Findings showed that school heads demonstrated strategic and adaptive leadership by applying evidence-based decisions, strengthening partnerships, and fostering teacher professional development despite limited resources. The study concludes that effective school leadership depends on data-informed management, innovation, and participatory governance. It recommends continuous capacity-building for school heads, institutionalization of collaborative planning, and enhanced stakeholder participation to improve the quality of English, Mathematics, and Science education in public schools.
