Dibenzocircumpentacene: Synthesis, Structure, and Physical Properties
Structurally well-defined zigzag-edged nanographenes hold great potential in nanoelectronics and spintronics. Herein, we reported the synthesis and characterization of a dibenzocircumpentacene derivative (1) featuring multiple zigzag edges, achieved through oxidative cyclodehydrogenation of a bisdibenzophenanthryl-p-terphenyl-based precursor. Because of peri-benzannulation, 1 exhibits a closed-shell singlet ground state, considerably enhanced stability, and a more localized aromatic characteristic. This work will shed new light on the synthesis of novel zigzag-edged nanographenes with tunable electronic properties and remarkable stability.
